What is Sofwave
- Technology. Sofwave uses SUPERB, which stands for Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam. It sends non-focused, high-frequency ultrasound in parallel beams to heat the dermis and stimulate collagen.
- The applicator. It is an array of 10 to 12 MHz ultrasound transducers with built-in skin cooling. A thermoelectric cooler keeps the epidermis (skin surface) cool during treatment.
- Depth. The heat is concentrated in the dermis between 0.5 and 2 mm deep, centred at 1.5 mm.
- Different from Ultherapy. Ultherapy focuses ultrasound at small points at three set depths and images the tissue. Sofwave uses parallel beams in a band of the dermis. See the Ultherapy page.
- Maker. Sofwave Medical Ltd., Yokneam, Israel. Its first FDA clearance came in September 2019, under the name Sofacia System.
Approval in Korea and the US
Korea. Sofwave Medical announced MFDS approval to market Sofwave in Korea on 30 August 2021, for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We could not confirm the MFDS approval number or any indication added later.
US. The FDA has cleared Sofwave in three 510(k) steps. A 510(k) is a clearance based on equivalence to an earlier device, not an approval.

How clinics in Korea price Sofwave
These patterns are common in the price lists in this directory:
- By shot count. The lists show packages of 50, 100, 200 and 300. Some clinics write "pulses" and others "shots". Our sources do not define either term, so ask what counts as one.
- Smaller area packages. Some clinics sell a smaller package for the eyes, and packages for the neck line or an eye-lifting plan.
- Bundles. Offers that combine Sofwave with other devices or injections are common. They are not like-for-like with a Sofwave-only package.
- VAT usually excluded. "부가세 별도" (bugase byeoldo) means VAT is added on top. Most clinics list it this way, but not all.
- Event prices. Time-limited offers are common. They show their end date in the table.
A shot count alone does not say which areas are covered. Compare the same count for the same area.

- Sofwave Medical says daily activities can resume immediately and describes the downtime as minimal.
- Patients feel warmth while energy is delivered. The maker says numbing cream is applied beforehand to reduce it.
- Treatment can be painful. A study of 36 people at a depth of 1.5 mm reported a mean pain score of 6.64 out of 10 with no adverse events reported, and a 15-person facial laxity trial reported 5.6 out of 10.
- Sofwave Medical says most people need one treatment, which usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Clinical studies used more: the upper-arm study gave two treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart, and a facial laxity trial used two sessions with follow-up at 3 and 6 months.
- Our sources do not give an aftercare routine. Ask the clinic for its instructions and whom to contact.

- How many shots are in the package, and what counts as one shot or pulse? Ask to see the counter.
- Which areas does the package cover? Are the eyes included or priced separately?

- Is the area you want treated one that the FDA clearance or the Korean approval covers?
- Who performs the treatment, and does the price change if the head doctor does it?
