Rejuran vs Juvelook: how the two Korean skin-quality injections differ

Rejuran and Juvelook are both Korean skin-quality injections, but their materials differ. Rejuran is polynucleotide (PN) made from salmon DNA, which acts as a physical scaffold in the skin. Juvelook is poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) microparticles mixed with hyaluronic acid, which stimulate the skin to make its own collagen. We found no FDA clearance or approval for either.

FDA: no approval or clearance found in our sourcesMost reported reactions are local swelling, discomfort and slight bruising, and injections leave small raised bumps. A 2024 systematic review of PN studies found no severe adverse events in the included studies
Juvelook (Skin, Volume)VAIM Inc. (Seoul, South Korea)PDLLA microparticles with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, supplied as a powder that the clinic mixes with sterile water. Injected into the dermis to induce the body's own collagenMFDS: classified as a medical device, approved by MFDS and CE-marked; approval date and number not confirmed, and no separate record found for Juvelook Volume (also sold as Lenisna). FDA: no approval or clearance found in our sourcesIn a lower-eyelid case series, mild bruising and swelling settled within 48 hours. The main concern with PDLLA injections is granulomas, which are firm, red nodules at the injection site

A "clearance" is not an approval. Where the table gives the maker's own statement, it is not independent evidence.

How they differ

Material and mechanism

  • Rejuran. PN consists of longer DNA fragments than the related PDRN. It forms a porous, highly viscous three-dimensional structure, which is why it behaves as a hydrating scaffold. It is thought to work mainly by remodeling the extracellular matrix. Rejuran Healer launched in Korea in 2014.
  • Juvelook. PDLLA is a biodegradable polymer that stimulates collagen synthesis. It is also reported to shift immune cells (macrophages) toward the anti-inflammatory M2 type. Juvelook combines PDLLA with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, and most Korean PDLLA studies used it.

Product lines

  • Rejuran has several versions. Rejuran HB plus adds hyaluronic acid and a local anesthetic to PN. The maker says the anesthetic cut procedure pain by 53% versus Rejuran Classic, but that is a company figure reported by the press, not an independent study. Rejuran i (also sold by clinics as Rejuran Eye) has a lower viscosity and spreads more, so it suits thin skin such as around the eyes.
  • Juvelook has two lines by purpose. Juvelook Skin is for fine lines and texture. Juvelook Volume, also sold as Lenisna, is for hollows and the lines from the nose to the mouth. Each Volume vial contains 170 mg of PDLLA and 30 mg of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid.

Sessions and how long they last

  • Rejuran. Expert guidance from the authors' clinical experience is 3 sessions at 4-week intervals for skin hydration and rejuvenation. For laxity the same experts suggest 3 sessions at 4-week intervals, then maintenance every 3 months. A randomized split-face trial of Rejuran for the eye area gave 3 treatments at 2-week intervals. We found no maker-stated duration.
  • Juvelook. Studies in a 2024 review gave PDLLA injections at 3-month intervals. A tear-trough case series used a single session. VAIM says the effects last about 12 months for Juvelook and 1.5 to 2 years for Juvelook Volume. That is a company claim.

Risks to know about

  • For PN, a systematic review found no severe adverse events in the included studies, and reactions were mostly local swelling, discomfort and slight bruising.
  • For PDLLA, the main concern is granulomas. A review also notes that even small poly-lactic acid particles can block blood vessels and cause tissue ischemia if injected into a vessel.
  • Your doctor explains the risks for your skin before treatment.

Regulatory claims to check

In Korea, PN products such as Rejuran are regulated as medical devices, and Juvelook is a medical device approved by MFDS. We found no FDA record for either. Some clinic pages abroad call Juvelook "FDA-approved", and we found no FDA record to support that. A PDLLA polymer being accepted by the FDA as a material is not the same as the Juvelook product being approved. Ask a clinic for the product's MFDS approval, not just a statement about the FDA.

Which one to ask about

This page does not rank the products. The doctor decides after an examination. Questions to ask the clinic:

  • Which exact product is it: Rejuran Healer, HB plus or i, or Juvelook Skin or Volume? Ask to see the box and the label.
  • How many cc or vials does the price include?
  • Which area is it for, and what is the aim: skin quality, the eye area or hollows?
  • How many sessions and what interval does the doctor suggest, and what happens if I need a touch-up?
  • What does the price include, for example numbing or cooling?
  • Can the clinic show the product's MFDS approval?
  • Who injects, and does the price change if the head doctor does it?
  • Is VAT included (부가세 별도 means VAT is charged on top), and is this a regular or an event price?

FAQ

What is the difference between Rejuran and Juvelook?

Rejuran is polynucleotide made from salmon DNA, which acts as a physical scaffold in the skin. Juvelook is PDLLA microparticles with hyaluronic acid, which stimulate the skin to make its own collagen. Rejuran is made by PharmaResearch and Juvelook by VAIM, both in Korea. Both are regulated as medical devices in Korea.

Is Rejuran or Juvelook FDA approved?

We found no FDA approval or clearance for Rejuran or Juvelook in our sources. Some clinic pages call Juvelook FDA-approved, and no FDA record supports that. In Korea, PN products such as Rejuran are regulated as medical devices, and Juvelook is an MFDS-approved device. Ask the clinic for the MFDS approval of the exact product.

Which is better, Rejuran or Juvelook?

We do not rank them. They are different materials with different mechanisms and different uses: Rejuran for skin quality, including a thin-skin version for the eyes, and Juvelook Skin or Volume for fine lines or hollows. We found no head-to-head study. Your doctor chooses after examining your skin and your goals.

How many Rejuran or Juvelook sessions do I need?

Expert guidance for PN products such as Rejuran is 3 sessions at 4-week intervals, with maintenance every 3 months for laxity. Studies of PDLLA products such as Juvelook gave injections at 3-month intervals. Your doctor decides the number and the interval. Ask whether a price covers one session or a package.

What are the side effects of Rejuran and Juvelook?

For PN, the most reported reactions are local swelling, discomfort and slight bruising, and a systematic review found no severe adverse events. For PDLLA, the main concern is granulomas, firm red nodules at the injection site. Bruising and swelling in one eyelid series settled within 48 hours. Your doctor explains the risks.
